Humber Bay from the East

Proceeding west from Toronto leaving Ontario Place to the east, behind a concrete seawall extends parallel to shore from Ontario Place for 2.3 miles to the mouth of the Humber River. This protected water area varies from 200 to 300 feet in width and has numerous entrances for small craft some which have lit entrance markers. However, not all entrances are navigable and there are often numerous small rowing craft and racing skiffs in this area. The tall condo's on the west side of the Humber River mouth are a conspicuous landmark with air obstruction lights.

The Humber River enters Lake Ontario on the NW side of Humber Bay and may be navigated by small craft with local knowledge for 1.5 miles inland. However the entrance is subject to silting. There is a foot bridge and 2 highway, and 1 rail bridges close to the mouth having only 10 feet of overhead clearance. North of the rail bridge there is a overhead power line with support cables 285 feet high.

Humber Bay lights

The old red and white lighthouses located on the north and south sides of the yacht basin originated at Toronto harbour in 1895 as the leading line for the eastern gap. In 11975 when they were retired from use the Humber Bay Boating Federation took over their restoration and new use as private harbour aids.

Humber Bay

To SW sector or Humber Bay West is managed by the Humber Bay Boating Federation and offers facilities to members and reciprocating yacht clubs.
