West of Port Credit en route to Oakville the shore is heavily wooded although this is a highly developed residential community with pockets of industry.

West of Port credit 3.2 miles lies Clarkson, which is 12 miles SE of Toronto proper. This is one of the industrial areas which approach the shore and can be identified by its wharf and adjoining refinery and cement plant. Clarkson is a custom reporting station for commercial traffic only .

The Petro Canada Products refinery wharf is a 0,2 mile long concrete structure 740 feet long with the berth located on the NW face with depths of 25 feet. There is an otter berth on the SW side is only 375 feet long and has depths of 23 feet, while the inner side is only 300 feet long with a depth of 20 feet. The wharf is designed for pumping pumping both fuel product and ballast water

Clarkson

Clarkson refinery navigation aids. There are privately maintained spar buoys marking shoal water to the SW and NE of the refinery wharf.

Clarkson Refinery maintains range lights are set on a bearing of 338 ° ; . the forward light (526) is found near the outer end of the wharf with the rear being the lower (527) of the range and set NNW close to the s shore on the same wharf.

There are 3 submerged water intakes close to the refinery wharfs. A conspicuous feature of the Petro Canada Refinery which can be identified by its various domes and fracking towers are two concrete chimneys of 417 feet hight 0.45 miles NNW and 0.3 miles from the refinery which have air obstruction lights.

Clarkson

The cement plant of St Lawrence Cement also maintains a wharf at Clarkson which is 0.7 miles SW of the refinery wharf. This wharf is formed by a causeway 0,02 miles long leading to a triangular wharf which is 1000 feet long and 67 feet wide at the inner end and 220 feet wide at the outer end. There are depth of 23 feet along the outer 590 feet reducing to 21 feet at the inner SW end.

To the SW of the wharf are two 900 ton hoppers, connected to the wharf by conveyor belts used by the cement plant to load and unload powered limestone and coal. Regular deliveries by lakers arrive on a regular basis to both plants and their speed can be surprising to the recreational boater.

Clarkson

Clarkson Cement plant navigation aids. St Lawrence Cement privately maintained, Clarkson Light (527.5) is located on the outer dolphin from a black mast. There is a conspicuous chimney 0,9 miles to the NW of the outer wharf end with an elevation of 587 feet and showing air obstruction lights.

There is a submerged sewer outfall 0.2 miles NE of the plant extending 0.8 miles offshore, with the outfall marked by a privately maintained buoy. A submerged pipeline 0.6 miles SW of the Clarkson wharfs extending 0.6 miles offshore with the outfall marked by a privately maintained buoy. An abandoned submerged sewer outfall is found 328 feet to the NE of the St Lawrence wharf.

To the SW of Clarkson 1.7 miles there is a submerged water intake extending 0.45 miles offshore and having a crib at the outer end which is marked by a privately maintained buoy.

Oakville Light (528) is on the south end of the east pier with an elevation of 29 feet, shown from a white circular tower with red upper part. A fog horn is housed at the light structure sounds one blast every 20 seconds and points in a 137°direction. This privately maintained fog horn operates between 08:00 to 22:00 hrs.

CAUTION Oakville Harbour is subject to silting and depths are maintained by dredging.

Oakville harbour is on 16 Mile Creek and is entered between the two piers at the end of the creek. The entrance passage is 120 feet wide. Oakville is a customs reporting station.

There are two highway bridges with a clearances of 33 and 32 feet just above the harbor.

On approach you can see the 50 foot flagpole to the SW of the harbour on a raised area. There is a gravel parking area adjacent to the harbour entrance below the hill and flagpole.




Most of the yacht clubs here are private and for members or reciprocating yacht clubs. On the SW shore, closes to the lake is the Oakville Yacht Squadron ( 1 ) with depth of approximately 2 feet at the wharf. The basin is set back from the main channel and sheltered by the surrounding hill.

On the north shore above the bridges is the Oakville Power Boat Club ( 2 ) and Oakville Racquet Club which is a private sports club. there is a pump out station on the east shore above the firs bridge.

Sharkeys on the Water is located between the two bridges and is a licensed lounge and restaurant with some dockage and live entertainment in the evenings. There are several charter boats based here.



Oakville Club is on East of River below the bridge. The Oakville Club is a destination of choice for cruisers. The Oakville Club has Larry, that some say is the best Dockmaster on the lake. Also guests are welcome to use all facilities including fine dining, pool and tennis.



Oakville

Oakville has a population of 115,000 and is 16 miles to the SW of Toronto. This is a fairly large city, has scheduled bus and rail services, borders the Queen Elizebeth Way and has all urban facilities such as hospitals posts offices etc.



The town itself is very upscale with high end fashion stores and quaint cafes offering a excellent opportunity for those of us who love shopping.

Conspicuous features of Oakville are tall apartment buildings near the harbour, and two steeples in the NE part of Oakville, with the western most showing clearly above the trees.

DOCK 16 has now moved to Bronte. Oakville Yacht Outfitters is at 30 Lakeshore Road West and offers repairs a chandlery. Both are authorized Hydrographic chart reseller.
