Fenelon Falls proudly holds the title of the Jewel of the Kawartha's. Originally identified as Cameron Falls, being the outflow of Cameron Lake the town and the falls name changed during the 1830's. The change of name and development of the area owes its growth to John Langdon and John Wallis who developed numerous properties and holdings during this period.




Fenelon Falls Museum

Proudly Irish John Wallis built and promoted the region for all his original residence Maryborne Lodge bears his original Irish estate's name. You can now visit this a block N.E. from the lock itself in its modern guise as the Fenelon Falls Museum. The Wallis's were also responsible for other commercial ventures building a sawmill a grist mill and various smaller endeavors.

The main street of Fenelon Falls which is also Highway 121 crosses the lock with a vertical clearance of 26 ft . For more about Fenelon Falls please check the town page which has local links.

It is easy to find your way around Fenelon Falls with the main business section north east of the bridge on Colborne Street or to the west side where the road becomes Lindsay Street or highway 121. THe information bureau is steps away from the lock wall on Water St. where you can pick up local maps and guides. All streets are clearly marked and points of interest indicated at most main corners.

For supplies if you are lucky enough to find a spot along the wall everything is within walking distance. NE along Colborne Street are principal banks, drug stores, a fair sized IGA for food, and numerous interesting shops. There is a laundromat a block north of Colborne St on Market, which is where you will find the Post Office, town offices and library. The liquor store is the first turning south on Francis St. E. For a liquid afternoon the Cow & Sow is in your path to the liquor store on the corner of Francis St. with typical pub food.

Canadian Tire, Tim Hortons, more the beer store and more laundromats can be found to the south west along Lindsay St. This is also the side of town you will be on if you tie up at Fenelon Falls Marina.

You can enjoy getting out of the galley here as there are numerous places to eat and drink to your hearts content. Overhanging the falls on Lindsay St. is the Falls View Restaurant 887 3436 which has a varied menu for families, a patio and is licensed. Further along the S.W. side if you take the north fork at Tim Hortens on Helen St., you can light a bit of a fire to your taste buds with the curry Indian food at Curry on Cameron Lake.

Into the Shade Bistro

Steps from the lock on the corner of May and Oak is the Into the Shade Bistro 887 1664 which features live Jazz during the tourist season sports an interesting menu with Louisiana cajun style cooking and is licensed. They are open from breakfast to dinner and can become pretty busy so if you plan an evening out you may wish to give them a call first. In the same area is The Chatterbox Dinning Room 887 1414 for the tyrolean taste buds you can get you brokentoffen, schnitzel BBQ's and of course beer or liquor.

Upstream of Lock 34

Above the lock, the channel leads out past a row of pilings and rock break walls into Cameron Lake. A railway swing bridge crosses the channel at this point.

Above the lock just before the rail road bridge on water street there is a small mooring which has most of it's space privately reserved, but there is one small spot which an intrepid vagrant might try for, if you captain a proper character vessel.



Adjacent to this short wall you reach the RR bridge which marks the beginning of Cameron Lake.

As you exit upstream above the RR bridge their are cribs above RR bridge at Fenelon Falls entering Cameron Lake. These cribs extend into the lake for some distance. with the N.W. exit being marked by a FIR and N 21 .

Fenelon Falls Marina

Located on the west side of Fenelon Falls roughly a half mile west of the canal on Cameron Lake is Fenelon Falls Marina (705) 887 4022 . The marina is south of the entrance to Cameron lake Mile 154 and provides transient and seasonal dockage. For larger craft they can accommodate up to 50' vessels having up to 6' of draft, but only 4' at the fuel dock. The facility has extensive storage and repair facilities for all types of engines, mechanical and props with haul out available for up to 40' boats. There is both 30 & 60 amp power a store for boating accessories, groceries and general supplies. Water is available at he fuel dock with clean showers, washrooms, a beach , picnic tables and phones and a kids play area.
