The bird got extended another day and Chris is getting restless and Debbie twitchy at being away from Durham so long. Chris has roofing and Debbie is in the middle of a job hunt which has to be brutal in the hospitality industry these days. ![]() And so begins another week in the gulag which is not bad as it stays a constant 70f 24/7 and sitting at a desk is far more in keeping with my health than block sanding these days. I see Sweetie eying the screen and know that this is how she escaped the other day so a high priority will be to get some new rubber and get that screen seated so she can have a wide open window. Tuesday August 18![]() Another day off and finally had a meeting with the architect regarding the basement entrance. Good thing as he puts even more emphasis od strength as this is a load bearing wall that carries 2 floors and a roof of weight. It looks like it will mean putting a triple 2x8 lintel above the door after doing extensive shoring before cutting into to wall. The good news is he will only charge $300 for the required drawings for the building permit. So the project stays alive. ![]() Chris had to take Debbie back to Durham leaving a short day on the bird. However the fill has pretty much run out and there is only enough primer for one more coat so the project is at its final stage for here. Tomorrow Charlie is due to pick it up and take it back to Muskoka for weights andbalancee test then the wings and taxi tests. |
6:00 AM EDT Wednesday 19 August 2009Temperature:19.3°C Wind Speed:NW 9 km/h Sunny. High 25. Risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Chris worked tirelessly on the bird. At this stage it must be approaching 80 hours since arrival. No different than a boat once you have the rough shape you are not even half way there. In many sections of the fuselage there have been over a dozen fill and fair exercises. Equally, with all grumbling aside this job has turned out very well. The sleek bird that nests in the garage is ready for the next phase. A quick stop for wings at the airport for taxi tests and weights and balances on the runway.
