West of Oshawa there are no conspicuous features of the shore line to Whitby which lies 4.5 miles to the west. Gold Point is 2.2 miles WSW of Oshawa Harbor shallow water extends outward, conspicuous is the chimney of the General Motors plant rising to 325 feet with air obstruction lights is visable from the lake.



Thicksons Point 3.5 miles WSW of Oshawa Harbor has shallow water extending outward. Each side of Whitby harbor there are the low wooded clay banks typical of this coastline, with farmland to the north and inland. 4 miles to the WSW of Whitby Harbor these banks rise to a height of 50 feet.

Whitby is a Customs Reporting Station.
Whitby Harbor is 3 km south of town at the mouth of Pringle Creek 1.2 miles WSW of Thickson Point. This sheltered bay is protected along its southern edge by a sandbar and breakwater. Whitby Harbor is managed by the Town of Whitby and under the administration of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Whitby Harbor Lights. Whitby Harbor Range lights are aligned at 353° with the forward light (504) located at the outermost point of the east pier, located in a white circular tower 21 feet high with a florescent-orange triangular daymark with its black vertical stripe. The rearmost rang light (505) is mounted on a white skeleton structure 50 feet high with a florescent-orange triangular daymark with its black vertical stripe. The Whitby inner harbor light (505.4) is found on the north end of the inner breakwall with a height of 20 feet located in a 10 foot high white circular tower with green upper portion.

Caution the harbor is subject to silting, charted depths are maintained by dredging. You enter the harbor between two piers extending outwards from the natural shoreline. The westerly breakwater is 300 feet long and 8 feet high while the easterly pier is 7 feet high. A conspicuous multi story condominium is across the road from the north end of the harbor. While a conspicuous microwave tower having air obstruction lights is 0.2 miles north of the harbor. A black topped chimney belonging to the Ontario Hospital can be seen 0.2 miles west of the harbor.

Port Whitby Marina (1) is located at the NW portion of the harbor with depths of 8 feet. The Marina is extremly well kept and secured by a pass card system.

Whitby Yacht Club (2) is located at the NW portion of the harbor with depths of 5 to 6 feet.

The town Whitby is 21 miles NE of Toronto and part of the regional municipality of Durham. Whitby has regular bus and GO train services with both highways 401 and 2 passing through it.

Like many clubs there is space available for members of reciprocating yacht clubs. The first two nights are free night and regular rates apply for longer stays if there is available space. You check in at the gas dock for slip assignment. Visitors from reciprocating yacht clubs have the use of facilities.
