This Lock marks the boundary between the NRA's Sudbury and Maidenhead Districts. Just below the lock opposite Mike Dennett's is the famous Queen Mary Reservoir. Penton Hook Marina may be reached via a narrow channel and there are services and visitors moorings available.

Chertsey Lock Mile 13
200' 8 " a width of 21', a draft of 8' 1 and a rise of 4'

There are facilities for marine repairs , a fresh water point for cans and disposal area. Chertsey lock is followed on the downstream side shortly by a bridge where the center span is the preferred passage so one should not count on upstream traffic giving way when leaving the lock.
You can fill you main fresh water tanks here from a hose making it a desirable break.

Shepperton Lock, Mile 11
length of 174' 5 " and a width of 19' 10 ", a rise of 6' 8 " and a draft of 7' 5 "

Sunbury Lock Mile 8
Has two set of locks the new one is 206' long and a width of 24' 4 " a rise of 6' 2 " and a draft of 8' 2 "
The Old lock is 154' 8 " long and 19' 3 " wide , a rise of 6' 2 " and a draft of 7' 5 "

Opposite the Weir Hotel is the main wier below which is the boathouse of George Wilson and Sons.

Molsey Lock Mile 5
264' 4 " long, a width of 24' 11 " a rise of 6' 1 ", and a draft of 7' 11 "

As you approach Mosley Lock the first thing you notice a Swiss chalet then is the amazing collection of houseboats arrayed on Tagg island. The boatyard of T. Allen and Sons lies on Ash Island.

Teddington Barge Lock, Mile 1
Begins the tidal Thames with two set of commercial locks and a skiff lock. The Locks sizes are
New Barge lock is 650' long by 24' 9 " wide, Maximum rise according to the lower tide level is 8'10 " and a draft of 8' 7 "
The Old Barge lock is 177' 11 " long and 24' 4 " wide, a draft of 9' 2 " with the same rise.
The Skiff locks are 49' 6 & long by 5' 10 " wide.

We arrived at Teddington at low tide which would have given us another four hours to wait to enter the tidal part of the Thames. Below Teddington Lock one enters the Thames tidal basin, which requires a different license to enter.
Would-be cruisers should be aware that the different waterways and even some rivers such as the Thames in Britain have their own licensing authority and should ensure that the boat they intend to hire is licensed for the area they wish to visit.

The Maid was not licensed for tidal waters and so it was necessary for us to turn around and retrace our route. Not that I cherished the Idea of taking this barge into commercial shipping lanes.

No matter for we had become tired of the built up areas after weeks in the countryside and accepted that we had indeed covered the Thames to the best our vessels capabilities.
