Defiance is economical and practical for Canadian live aboard conditions, as is, where is, for 2007 operation in the Great Lakes or to the Caribbean #. Seen to the left Defiance is a legendary live aboard in ever port where we have wintered with pretty much everything one could ask for already there. Such as a superior reusable winter covers, ice eater and listed support equipment #. Don't forget to visit the Blogs of day to day aboard Defiance. ![]() That's It! The salon Ultrasuede Upholstery is finished!Defiance is a complete refit 2004/5 by a professional. Built by “Richardson” in Meadford, Ontario Defiance was built to full commercial scantlings, as a YACHT. This boat is NOT a conversion, and the 2003/4 refit has passed 80K. The hull has been inspected and in excellent condition. The general plating is 3/16"; while the vertical bow plating is full 1/4", the keel and rudder areas much heavier". Powered by a 64-HN9 (US Navy Spec 671 version) primary engine of 255 HP Defiance produces predictable speed and fuel economy. Defiance is a perfect live aboard adventure vessel ready to leave port for extended cruising in cold waters. Everything in controls and maintenance is new 2004/5 state of the art.
The interior layout is Chain licker, forward V Cabin with 6’8” headroom, Engine room with 3’9” headroom featuring accessible machinery and systems, above slightly raised helm station followed by a comfortable salon with wood stove and wet bar and large opening windows. The side walk around is a full 24” wide with covered decks and huge scuppers.
Proceeding aft of the watertight bulkhead and below decks is the great cabin featuring a U shaped galley with a full sized “Easy Cold” fridge, 3 burner/oven SS stove, 1500W microwave and double sinks. The head has a new electric head, sink and Bathtub. There are 2 berths set to the sides of a semi circular dinette with large drawers between and a large hatch set in a raised castle. There is then another watertight bulkhead separating the lazarette.
On deck there is an anchor windlass, and raw water wash-down at the anchor station, both booms are rigged for cargo and it is possible for one person to retrieve the 12’ aluminum dinghy complete with a 9.5 HP motor, tanks and safety equipment and set it on the cabin roof. The same applies to the aft boom which is rigged to retrieve “heavy” items such as an additional boat, or snowmobile to the aft deck while extending far enough aft to make it possible to snatch dive equipment from the water instead of climbing aboard with it on. There are extremely complete manuals, and updated circuit/system diagrams and instructions making assuming command of another a pleasure. The massive battery banks provide more than enough reserve power and amperage for any application. Update August 3, 2008
Defiance did not remain the property of Bruce and Cathy long. They changed their minds and sold it to Michael who has now taken posession, but has progressed little in the recommissioning. The second owner Michael DECLINED commissioning and opted for another delivery Captain and commissioning assistance. Check the Blogs for pictures of Defiance frozen in the ice here.
Michael was provided a detailed list of accumulated operation and commissioning knowledge along with the opportunity to have the vessel properly commissioned which he declined. Thus all responsibility for the operation passes to ther new captain. May fair winds and calm seas follow them on their voyage. |
