Defiance Accommodation

The pilothouse

plnPHtn.gif - 15694 Bytes

The pilothouse is located directly above the engine room and contains the helm station and salon. The helm area is raised roughly 7" above the floor of the salon allowing more space below in the "work area" of the engine room. There are to outward opening doors with screens to both sides, and a "black out style curtain that can be drawn across to separate the helm from the salon for night operations. A currently inspected 5 lb. CO2 extinguisher is secured beside the starboard door.

Aft of the helm station it is a step down to the salon. To starboard is a hanging locker with counter space on top while to port is an office area with flip down desk. There are a complete set of monitoring controls and read-out's here along with the navigation instruments.

That's It! The salon Ultrasuede Upholstery is finished!

Starboard and aft of the hanging locker is a wood stove in a metal lined nook. Further aft is a short settee followed by a wet bar. To port is a 7' long settee with fold up section for either cuddling or sleeping. There are fairly large storage lockers under the settee's along with 2 40,000 BTU radiators port and starboard.

Slightly to starboard at the aft end of the salon is the companionway, down four stairs to the aft cabin

Aft Great Cabin

The plush accommodation must be considered to be the great cabin. The persons who claim these berths have a pretty much a self contained en suite cabin. The head door closes off the cabin and companionway from the galley and after dinette and berths.

There are large under berth storage areas along with huge easily sliding drawers. The height under the "doghouse" is amazing with enough room for a 6'3"man to stretch his arms full above his head, and puts the windows the perfect height to look out if you are standing on the seats, which is how you climb into your berth in any case.

This will probably be the crew quarters on the voyage as the space is large enough for 2 to share with ease and privacy is not hard to achieve.

There are 2, 6'7" berths set above and outside of the round settee. They are well designed and will be secure in a seaway with the lee cloths up.

An added feature of the great cabin is that when closed the galley is part of the cabin making the entire area quite comfortable for a couple.

Looking towards the bow the galley is to port.

The bathtub is a valuable asset as it is not only a touch of luxury when in port, but provides a huge washbasin when underway.

A 4 burner propane stove and full sized marine 12 VDC fridge provide all the comforts of home.

There is a nice sized working counter that forms the port division from the berth area that is excellent for food preparation. The entire galley works extremely well when underway or at anchor.

The Head:

The head floor is finished with tile and a teak and holly floor, beneath the electric macerating head you cannot beat stainless steel for clean up ease. The entire head area is fiber glassed to prevent any possible leakage of fluids. A new 16ga. stainless steel splash pan under the head will greatly increase the comfort of day to day maintenance.

Under voyaging crewed conditions I will use the fore-cabin as her quarters. Now living alone except for Rufus the cat I use the forward cabin as an office and main server area, which easily converts for occasional guests.
