Work goes well but the tension in the marina is climbing. Whether or not Defiance can stand alone to the weather, Rick will not tolerate my being around. One way or the other he will get his way or make life impossible. I have looked around and pretty much settled into to trying to set up camp at the shop Today is going to be a push as time is now and by tonight I need to have the space set up so I can stay there. I can fill the oil tank next week. Thursday 15 November 2007Marine Forecast issued for Lake Ontario. It is minus eight outside tonight and returned to Defiance in the wee wolfing hours as am worried about the cats. The little trailer and propane heater in the shop are survivable, but are questionable and it raises heck with my back. If there is no where else to sleep. showers are $5.00 each at the Ten Acre Truck Stop and I have no issues with the warm jug of water routine to wash my hair. I know the door has slammed shut and there are, or will be unpleasant consequences if I try to live aboard Defiance this winter. It has been a strange couple of days being homeless and I see Rick is sleeping here at the marina these days. I have been told to go and there is not much that I can do, but other than somehow considering some form of prior notice would have been a nice civilized action.
I hauled with an express purpose of doing the bottom on the boat and have met all the conditions understood.I do not have choices doing the bottom was always going to be a big job and it has certainly turned out to be a handful. If all of a sudden I can not work on my boat and there are a bunch of restrictions I was never informed of there is an issue. I shall for now only say that the Marina is making a concerted effort to keep me from spending time aboard Defiance, therefore my words about the subject must be responsible and legal. Marine Forecast issued for Lake Ontario. Issued: 3.00 AM EST Monday 19 November 2007 for the period ending at 3.00 AM Tuesday with an outlook for the following 24 hours. Forecast: Wind southeast 15 knots veering to south this morning then diminishing to 10 midday. Wind increasing to south 20 this evening. Fair. Scattered showers beginning this evening. Waves 1 to 2 metres. Outlook..Strong southwesterlies diminishing to moderate. Sunday was one of those days from hell. I only have two days a week off and Sunday is a tough day to put together another place to live. I started early and viewed a half a dozen places which brought home just how lucky I have been to have Defiance as a home. By 18:00 hours when I returned to Defiance to visit the kitties I was a case. I broke my heart to be with my furry friends as I spent several hours pumping the water out of the tanks, which is still not complete, but progressing. I dare not just turn open the tap and let it run continuously as the pumps are not meant to hours at a time and I have no desire to but a new $150 pump. This was a very sad period as both Rufus and Clyde were doing the full fledged cat affection dance and knows that something is up. Marine Forecast issued for Western Lake Ontario. Issued: 3.00 AM EST Tuesday 20 November 2007 for the period ending at 3.00 AM Wednesday with an outlook for the following 24 hours. Forecast: Wind southwest 20 knots veering to west this morning. Wind veering to northwest 10 by midday. Wind further veering to northeast 10 overnight. Rain ending late this morning then fair. Showers redeveloping overnight. Waves 1 metre or less. Outlook..Moderate easterlies backing to northeasterlies.
Last night was the first in my new digs, I still have no bed and Rufus is still on the boat, but I think that this is the best of the options. My new roomate Brenda and I get along very well and share the same cusp of a difficult life on the margins of survivable income. She was so kind and let me crash in her bed which after several days of living out of the shop was amazing as I had not realized how stringy I had become.
I have always believed in fate and that the cosmic tide brings people together at a particular time for a particular need, at a particular time. Often this is when a teacher or another presence that compliments the events of the time. My suspension is that moving in to Wellington will be a significant change for the better if for nothing more than I have a person to talk to not just the cats. Both of us are scratching but we instantly Wednesday, November 21, 2007Super Crunch day: I stayed aboard Tuesday night for the last time under normal living conditions, from here on it is a winterized boat with all the nastiness that entails. It was a sad night with funks heat from a primary oil filter that is not feeding quite right, but fortunately it is not too cold and the last night was comfortable. Unfortunately, both Clyde and Rufus were home and only Rufus can come with me to Wellington. I feel so bad about leaving Clyde in spite of his having a bed in the milking shed of Sunnydale farms he is so persuasive even getting in the car and waiting for me as I loaded it up. Sweetie and Serendipity have moved from the marina to somewhere else leaving me an empty feeling and worrying. Finally just before I left Sweetie showed up and I got her some breakfast. But I worry about the wild kitties as the coyotes are close and very plentiful this year. ![]() Thursday, November 22, 2007Marine Forecast issued for Eastern Lake Ontario. Issued: 10.30 AM EST Thursday 22 November 2007 for the period ending At 10.30 AM Friday with an outlook for the following 24 hours. Forecast: Wind northeast 30 knots backing to north 25 this afternoon and to northwest 20 this evening. Snow and ice pellets tapering to scattered flurries late this afternoon. Waves 2 to 3 metres lowering to near 1 this evening. Outlook..Moderate to strong northwesterlies backing to moderate southwesterlies then increasing to strong.
We got Defiance bedded down none too soon yesterday and I had a mega sleep of ten solid hours on my new Wellington berth. Rufus was so lost that he cuddled and demanded attention all night, every couple of hours there would be a little nose prodding my arm for a hug and comfort. I love his furry face and getting cat love in the night is just about right for me these days. The weather has turned very ugly this morning with the car covered in a sheet of ice when I came out only to find in yesterdays chaos that I left the ice scraper at the shop. Overall not bad for ice covered roads and the difference in distance was wonderful as much of the traffic on HWY 62 was slowed down to 40 KPH. IT is the same the world over , first snow and the world forgets how to drive and goes paranoid. This is American Thanksgiving and the phones were pretty dead at work which enabled me to get a little extra tutoring which is greatly appreciated as there will be no available support, except through process after this week. I get butterfly s as I am still struggling to know the product line and first level troubleshooting repairs from memory and I find working through the tools has been a bit of a challenge although I have had my desks switched and that gives me a new computer which seems to be behaving much better than the old crash baby.

Friday, November 23, 2007Marine Forecast issued for Lake Ontario. Issued: 3.00 AM EST Friday 23 November 2007 for the period ending at 3.00 AM Saturday with an outlook for the following 24 hours. Forecast: Wind northwest 15 knots diminishing to 10 near midnight. Isolated flurries. Waves 1 to 2 metres lowering to near 1 this evening. Outlook..Light to moderate southwesterlies increasing to strong. MV EXPLORER storyThe ground is white with a coating of snow on top of black ice. Todays the news is full of the holing of the MV Explorer one of the first Arctic cruise ships in existance. The purpose built icebreaker was damaged off Antarctica last night and the passengers evacuated. It just goes to prove how risky ice navigation can be. Sunday was a break and I had time to hang around the house and put in a decent day on DEfiance. I was glad to see the wild cats Sweetie and mom alive if not a little hungry. IThey had a Sunday banquet worth of the finest cat with turkey, a full can of Friskeys, and a full helping of the staple Purina kibble.
Sunday 25 November 2007Marine Forecast issued for Eastern Lake Ontario. Issued: 10.30 AM EST Sunday 25 November 2007 for the period ending At 10.30 AM Monday with an outlook for the following 24 hours. Forecast: Wind southwest 25 knots diminishing to 20 this evening and to 10 overnight. Fair. Periods of rain developing overnight. Waves near 2 metres lowering to near 1 near midnight. Outlook..Light and variable increasing to strong northwesterlies.Rufus has taken to Wellington and has a favorite spot on the stairs in front of the window. It works well as when we are all home her pretty much keeps to the quiet upstairs where there is less noise.
Defiance is lonley but fine. I got the rest of the stuff worth stealing removed with the shelter doors and locks done. Outside of the fire axe approach Defiance is safe and bedded down for the winter. The dinghy grounded waiting for a lift with the fork lift. The last of "D" dock will be gone this week and they will begin to bring the break wall in. All much earlier than ever before.
![]() Wellington has a west facing harbor that the government tries to keep open but the low water and relentless westerly winds leave it non-navigatible by all but the smallest boats. On the other hand the Sandbanks is a pleasant place for a nosh and brew. |
