There is a red sky this morning and Rufus has returned from his nocturnal rounds to assist me with welcoming the day As the dock reached full a high summer guest load he tends to stay around more during the day while making a full night of prowling. I will start on fitting the keel and exterior bilge stringers on the Skiff today. The new water pump is not going to be too much of a beast to install as most of the dimensions and inlet/outlet's are in the correct position. There is no doubt this is a whole lot more pump than what is on there. ![]() Sunday July 15Saturday turned out to be pretty much a rain out. I showed Defiance to a nice couple just begining their hunt for the perfect "retired & cruising" boat. There was a brisk wind that kept many in harbor but did not effect the huge super yacht that dropped by. It is amazing what you can do with twins and both bow and stern thrusters.
Today the rain is gone with the morning sun already drying the pools of water on the deck. I will get out of here in a as soon as I finish the my coffee and hit the shop and skiff for a hour or so. I need to measure up the spot for the aft seat in order to build a cool new seat that meets the eras feel. Now the hull is sealed I will go back and fill the gouges and divot's with a mixture of sawdust and epoxy so that we can get back to fairing Monday.
The C&C Brass Bullet stopped by from Frenchmans Bay and they have a new, destoned to be suppurb "Boat Cat". The little girl uses every inch of the rigging and is up and down from the sail like a cat. I have been amis in reporting on the Boatyard Cats Serindippidy and Sweety. Their world is about to undergo another change as Linda is going to close in the Orange Building anad prohibit access, which will leave them outside looking for a new dig.
Sunday, July 15, 2007 Cedar SkiffThe rain has let up but the wind is back and it is only in the low 20'sC ![]() I went in at the crack of dawn to sand out any areas of the pre-coat that required further fairing and spent a couple of hours picking away at the final course areas that mainly existed around the old scarfs. In the end I managed to avoid using any filler at all in all but two scarfs leaving the bottom looking pure.
The floorboards are 10 minutes sanding from the first coat of colour and by week end there are going to be major advancements. With a satisfactory Pre-Coat to the entire hull it is time Monday to flip the boat back over and complete the final repairs to the shear and seats. The finish of the wooden hull is beginning to become quite something as even the fiberglass repairs on planks 3 & 4 have all but disappeared. Check out the large image of the fiberglass repair to the right.
Rufus has adapted to the wet weather and fully approves of the latest decor changes. So we stay in and wait out the weather with short spurts to the shop for a lick or two on the skiff Temperature 20°C, Pressure 101.7kPa, Wave Height N/A, Wave Period 2sec, Sea Temp. 20°C, Wind SW 3 knots
Marine Forecast issued for Lake Ontario. Issued: 3.00 AM EDT Tuesday 17 July 2007 for the period ending at 3.00 AM Wednesday with an outlook for the following 24 hours. Forecast: Wind light and variable. Chance of a shower otherwise fair. Chance of a thunderstorm over western sections this afternoon. Waves less than 1 metre. Outlook..Light and variable.
Not much of a morning with a haze hanging over the bay. Chris is due back later Wednesday which is enough sanding for the shoulder. Rufus's favorite time to bons is right around sunrise which keep me honest as far as starting my day. There is a lot of ritual grooming and treating before he retires for a drink of the nights dew from the aft hatch cover.
![]() One thing about the Waupoos boating community there are always an evening gathering of helpfull folks to urgeg Josh on in his windsurfer practice. Louie is big on the repair and closing up of the orange building which is without a doubt a bit below rough. The tough part is this is the feral cats home.

It started out as a bit of a quiet day as the surveyors were marking out the property and there were far more than normal people about the place. I started the day with a tractor ride back to the deepest depts of the place where original groth Ontario is an apt discription. The bad news is that I twisted my foot badley enough that I will have to limit my walking for several days. I got the shear repairs and one side of the shear sanded out before it became time to get off my foot. Fortunatley Chris will be here in a few hours and final sand is his gig. Tomorrow is a big day as Wilf the owner is visiting and the timing is perfect. This little skiff is becoming one classy lady. Thursday. July 19
Chris arrived back late Wednesday night too tired from his sailing to do anything. My foot was really bad Wed evening I had maxed out the Tyanol and was in my berth before 20:00. Thursday arrived with torrental rain so bad that even with rain gear I had to plastic bag the laptop in a plastic bag insisde its case to keep it dry. Even with the wipers going full the rain made driving in to the shop difficult.
Thursday Wilf the owner of the Skiff came by for a visit with the lady and was happy with progress. Chris spent 9 straight hours block sanding the skiff by hand while I began my apprenticeship as a top maker. Anthony has now got the sewing machine set up and I revisit sewing. The big machines are nothing like consumers this thing has a nine horsepower motor and you drive it with a clutch. Anthony is an excellenet teacher and I look forward to branching out in to tops and upholstery.
