Soon the pressure ridges will start and Defiance will be nothing in the way of the forces at work. Great news is the first, which will probably be the most serious pressure crack formed last night. It was outside of where Defiance lies by several feet. This means chances are it will heave up and roll the boat towards the dock which is a fairly benign movement with the pressure well outboard of the hull. Leaving the main shear line outside of Defiance meaning there is much less pressure on the hull.

The warm up started last night and continued through the night to where it was +2°C by morning sun.

T - 35: Another great adventure is about to begin.

Spring cannot be far away Bob took the flock accross to the Island this afternoon. The running of the sheep as we know it. It is however quite a sight as the thousands of sheep file accross the ice. I can already hear the coyote's barking. Perhaps tonight I get my picture as they are going to follow the food.

It will not be long now that the hard water become treacherous and his winter playground return to its wet state, of which he is not overly fond of.

Rufus has begun to take full advantage of the aft "patio", boarding platform. It is exceptionally nice to hang out back there now that the sun is begining to bring warmth again.

The weather is still cold with a deck temperature of -26C this morning. The sun however was working overtime making the snow sparkle and glint.

As always someone gets stuck on the ice, they will need to be getting that moved as soft ice is comming. THe huge drifts are sagging away and the surface of the is is covered with mush.

Editors Note March 18, 2007

I am back from Belize it can be told. I flew out the next day with Tamerack left in command.

I have been back from Belize for almost a month working on another wood boat. My catch up has ended its first phase as I cool out and contemplate. The period of the Blogs from February 22 to March 16 will be updated from our handwritten notes and the images prepared in the next few weeks.

This was just what the doctor ordered for me as I find myself relaxed healthy and in good spirits as the next part of this story begins.

It will take me a while to compile all the written notes so until I get that task compleated you can browse the overall image index. Be warned that it is a HUGE page of thumbnails, that will take forever to load on all but fast connections, without picture explinations.
