0-1 Calm Sea smooth and mirror like. Smoke rises verticaly 0 -  
1-3 Light air Scale like ripples without foam crests. Smoke indicates direction 1 1/2  
4-6 Light breeze Small short wavelets; crests have a glassy appearance and do not break. Tree leaves start moving 2 1/2  
7-10 Gentle breeze Large wavelets; some crests beging to break, foam of a glassy appearance, occasional white foam crests. 3 2  
11-16 Moderate breeze Small waves, becoming longer fairly frequent white foam crests. Dust swirls and small branches bend. bending. 4 4  
17-21 Fresh breeze Moderate waves, taking a more pronounced long form , many white foam crests with some spray. 5 6 First reef
22-27 Strong breeze Large waves begin to form , white foam crests more everywhere with some spray.Wind whistles. 6 10 Small craft consider shelter
28-33 Near

Seaheaps up and white foam from breaking waves begins to be blown in the direction of the wind. spindrif begins. 7 14 In harbor. Experienced

64-71 Huricane Air is filled with foam and spray. Sea completly white with driving spray, visibility difficult. 12 45 # see heavy weather & huricane survival
